I'm driving my car along a suburban street similar to the one I grew up on in Connecticut. I take a detour and go along a river road when I encounter two freshly killed bodies floating in a flooded area along the road. The bodies are of two men with blood coming from their mouths and throats. Then I see authoritarian figures picking up another body to examine it and I'm horrified and turn around and go back.
I keep thinking should I tell about what I've witnessed? I fear for my life for I've seen something I should have not seen.
I end up at a place of employment with co-workers milling about doing their usual stuff. The place is some kind of investigative journalism office but what I do here isn't clear. I approach the head journalist to tell her that I saw something horrible and fear repercussions if I reveal it. She smiles and shrugs her shoulders. I'm disappointed with her reaction and tell her so. "If you people did your jobs, there would be no need for people like me!"
Then I overhear a conversation from two men in the office about murders happening all across the country of law enforcement officials--cops, agents, etc. That's when I speak up and tell them I drove by some bodies on my way here. They say "Let's go" and we end up going back to the scene of the crime.
Now we see several more bodies laid out in rows. They range from men in suits to a young police officer in her blue uniform. I'm amazed and horrified that individuals (presuming there was more than one attacker) were able to take down so many so easily. Some of the bodies didn't appear that bloodied or mutilated.
Then I'm with these same two guys and we're going into a school to do a report on a choir practice. Everything seems like business as usual except for one thing---one of the guys is also simultaneously doing a report about a crime. He shows me someone's bank statement on a computer and it says Walmart $250.00. He tells me write it down. I ask "Was it payment to Walmart or taken from Walmart?" He says "What does it matter? Just write it down." So I did.
Then we head to hear a choir practice and I'm glad I have a job.
End
