It was once said in pilot circles that a good landing was any landing you could walk away from. so I wouldn't read too much into the fact that you didn't land square on your feet.

I think the approach you're following here is a good one. Your own free associations are much more valuable than any "dream dictionary" or dictionary of symbols, (though you can get some good contexts for further free association from them).

Suggestion: After a couple or three weeks, review these notes and see if you can see common themes, characters, issues, motifs, etc. Don't disregard your comparisons before then - you'll inevitably make some - but hold them lightly. In many ways, what you and your dreaming mind are doing right now is establishing the beginnings of a common language. It's a hit-and-miss, never-ending process, but well worth the effort.
