Jane Austen is incredibly boring, in my opinion. I don't see why in school we're forced to read her work as "literature." Characters I couldn't care less about involved in uninteresting situations. I don't know, maybe it could work as satire were it at all funny, but it's not.

    Apologies to Jane Austen fans.

The thing is it's supposed to be sort of satire; she deliberately made the characters pompous and annoying to put a point across, it's just a bit too much in P and P. I read Emma twice a few years ago and I didn't mind that at all, it was pretty funny.

I know Emma was supposed to be funny, but to me it was more "eh" funny than "ha ha" funny and not worth it.

Perhaps I'm just too shallow to appreciate the subtleties of humor

Actually, though, I read Austen many years ago. Maybe I'd appreciate her more now that I'm older. Something similar happened to me with The Red Badge of Courage. The first time I read it I found it so boring I couldn't finish it. Then I read it again when I was older and enjoyed it very much. Maybe I should also try rereading Moby Dick, which is the other book that bored me so much I couldn't finish it.

I've got Moby Dick in my Bathroom, I used to read it in the bath, but since I started going to the gym all the time and having showers there I don't have a bath at home very often. I got about halfway through, then a dramatizasion of it with Patrick Stuart as Captain Ahab was on TV, it was great but I have no insentive to finish the book now. :)

I've been reading nothing but 'Aliens' books for the past month and a half, someone gave me 9 of them and I've read 5 so far... they are good but I'm looking forward to reading something else soon. :)

I have had a few dreams with aliens in them, but they weren't really nightmares; I was usually fighting and destroying them :)

I've read hundreds of horror books, the Alien books are horror books, but I don't usually get nightmares anyway. ;)
