Hello everyone. Two nights ago I had a dream that me and some people I knew at school (not friends but not enemies-just people that were around) were on a tiny, marshy patch of land and coming out of the water surrounding it were creatures that were alligators but didn't look like normal ones- they looked more dinosaur-like. They were all around but they weren't intent on eating me;they were more focused on eating some one else. One bit some one's head off and at the end of the dream the person they were most intent on eating dived underwater and the dream ended with me seeing an alligator see this and go in after her. Last night I had another dream, this time I was on an island (notice the recurring theme of being surrounded by water). This dream started off with me being in the water and the person I was with was telling me it was paradise but I was worried about sharks and soon after she was attacked by one and lost both legs (in this dream I never saw the shark myself and I didn't see any blood in the attack). Next thing I know I am back on the island itself; the victim of the attack was there also and was being cared for by her family but I didn't speak to her again because she just no longer seemed relevant to me. I then was wandering naked around the island (which was crowded) but my nudity didn't really bother me and I then bumped into some people I knew who weren't really friends but I hung out with them for a while anyway (after getting dressed). After nightfall I found some one who went to my school and had just been attacked by a shark and lost a foot. He handed me two books to research and then tell him about; one both about dealing with trauma and one about how to heal his wounds (he had however, already bandaged himself up neatly by the time I found him-he was always a resourceful guy). I am really baffled by these two dreams and wonder if they are connected- common factors appear to be being surrounded by water, never personally feeling very fearful of the dangers that menaced others and not feeling traumatized by the attacks I witnessed. Also, I came across a lot of people in the two dreams but none were friends or enemies-just accquantances. If any one could give me their opinions on the meaning of all this I'd be grateful. Thanks in Advance.
Hi and Welcome. Water is sometimes associated with emotions. There is danger in the "water." Things that can "eat" you--or "eat" at you--or "eat" you up inside. What you associate with sharks and alligators could be a clue as to what kind of emotion may be eating at you emotionally. I also see a contrast. Although the dream suggests that you are dealing with powerful emotion, it also suggests that you are acting indifferently to it all. You are not bothered by your nudity (which is often a symbol for your true nature) and you are not bothered by the attacks on others. You describe one bite victim as a resourceful guy. Do you see yourself this way? Do you think the bite victims deserved their wounds? Do other people seem to you weak or even boring?
Thanks for replying. Well what it is is that I've just left high school and I feel a lot of apathy towards most of the people there because I always felt they were very small minded. My dad thinks I had these dreams because I'm about to start a new phase in my life and they symbolize the end of an era. The guy who lost a foot in the dream is a good guy and I was willing to help him but I didn't care deeply either way. As for the others I really didn't care what happened to them and that pretty much matches the way I really feel towards them now. I have to say I have a lot of shark dreams in general; way more than dreams of anything else. However, I wouldn't describe them as nightmares because even when I get bitten there is no fear element. What could that mean?
So, let's see. Something eats at you, that has a thick skin, large teeth, or "big mouth," that has the traits of sneakiness and guile (lawyers are often referred to as sharks for these reasons). This something doesn't cause you fear. Does it provoke any other emotion?
