August 7, 2005 Dream It is winter with wet snow on the ground with ice underneath. It is nighttime and the scene is a small old house the sets at the top of an uphill driveway. I’m outside and observing a man that has a truck with two dog/wolves. The man, who is wearing a heavy winter parka, orders one of the dogs to get out of the truck and start eating a bowl of dog food. He pushes the dog’s snout into the food and the dog reluctantly eats. The man warns me that he’s testing a new land mine and wants to see how it will blow when the dog steps on it. I shield my face and head with my arms waiting for the blow when family members walk up the hilly driveway toward me and I tell them what the man is doing. I slip on the ice under the snow and almost fall all the way down. Then we, me and family members, are in a car going down the driveway and it is very slippery. We see cars doing donuts in the road. Then I’m inside the house and see a strange family drive up in a pick-up truck. The man in the parka was unsuccessful at getting the first dog to step on the mine, so he used the other dog and it was killed. The family begins to pick up the carcass of the dog and put it into the back of their truck and drive off when a man with shaggy hair and a beard sitting in a wheelchair block the exit so the family cannot leave. Then the family is in the kitchen sitting at the table while members of the occupants of the house (unknown to me) let them know they cannot take the dog. The man (father of the family), who has dark curly hair and appears Hispanic, says, “It’s a spiritual creature.” This indicates that they are somehow entitled to the dog’s body, probably as a food source. I find it odd that they would just take it without permission while claiming spiritual things.
Strange to have such a cold dream in the middle of August. Do you sleep under a fan? The man who is beleaguring the dogs seems to be an authority figure in your life who does not care whom he belittles or uses. I don't know what the symbolism of the icy ground could be, other than you are not sure of yourself, and feel as if you are on "slippery" ground. Are there things going on in your life that are unsettling at this time? That you sense a dichotomy between the Hispanic man's desire of the dog [religion versus need] indicates to me that you are open to other meanings in life - that you strive to know "why" you are doing something when you are asked to perform a task. It would be most interesting to know how you felt when you woke up after this dream.
Wow! You're good! Yes, I do sleep with a fan blowing on me. Perhaps I did incorporate the cool air on my person into the dream. I read just a few days ago that the U.S. is looking into making new mines. Mines are barbaric and injure and kill mostly innocent people, especially children. I wish Princess Diana were still here. She'd get a lot of attention in speaking out against this! I feel the guy in the parka could be a symbol of U.S. foreign policy. You hit the nail on the head with the slippery ice. I do feel I'm on slippery ground, unsure of my path at times. And yes, I do like to know the reasons I am asked to do things, and often ponder why things are the way they are. Open to other things in life? You bet!
