I had a very vivid dream last night that literally woke me up and I had been sweating, in the dream I had connected with a long-lost female friend and as we were heading out the door, I spotted a very large and fat black tarantula on the upper left corner of the door, then I got distracted trying to find a container to put the critter there, suddenly it was gone; and as we were wondering where it could be; I spotted it again inside a plastic bag (presumably the tarantula fell from the door and into this bag inside a larger paper bag), as I tried to get the plastic bag, the tarantula jumped out, and as my son tried to grab it, he got bitten in his hand, running out of solutions; I stepped on its head and it eventually died, I'm at a loss for the meaning of this dream; if anyone knows or has read about spiders and tarantulas and their meaning in dreams, give me your thoughts. Thank you

The question should be what do spiders (tarantulas) mean to you? Many things can have universal meanings, but some things can mean something different to the individual.
For me, a dream about spiders comes when I'm coming down with a cold or the flu. I think of them as invaders, such as a virus.
When you figure out what they mean to you--either physically or emotionally, then you're on your way to figuring out what the dream means.
What I find interesting is that it shows up after meeting up with a long lost friend. It becomes a distraction, something you wanted to contain, but it wouldn't comply and got away.
Does this resonate? Are you trying to contain or capture something that is out of your grasp or refuses to be contained (possessed, bottled up, suffocated or smothered) physically or emotionally?

I like your analysis, sweet slumber, simply because just today I got surprised by cold-like symptoms, I attributed the sneezing bout to "allergies"?, but I'll keep an eye on other clinical symptoms that may indicate a cold, on my long lost friend; we have always been good friends, but there was always some romantic-sexual mutual interest right in the surface!, but both of us being married and working at a hospital always stopped us from any further pursuits, but my heart got a happy extra-systolic bout when I heard from her after a good 20 yrs!, bottled good feelings?, for sure! I thank you for your insight. DocSher22
