Last night I had a dream that my best friend and I were at a festival or some other outdoor gathering. The setting was warm and the grass was green and it was windy (perfect weather, in other words). But as we were walking around the setting changed to the top of a mountain in a very cold, snowy mountain range. My friend was walking before me and when his foot touched the earth, it turned out to be ice and he fell through. I grabbed his hand tight but I couldn't keep my footing. I held on and fell under the ice with him instead of letting go of his hand. There were many people standing around and I fought to keep my arm above water so someone could grab me and pull us out. My friend was sinking further under the water and his weight was pulling me under into the faster-moving water below, but I held on to his fingers with my right hand as tightly as I could. Still no one grabbed my left one. The water froze back really quickly and my friend and I became live statues in the ice, with three of the fingers on my left hand still reaching above the surface. I'm really interested to see what anyone thinks this dream might say about the current state of my subconscious. I usually don't see my dreams this vividly or feel them as acutely as I did this one. What do you think all of this means?
I think that the mountain represents a difficult obstacle that you and your friend have to face or a task that you and your friend has to accomplish. You seem to be worried that he might not be capable of doing what he needs to do, but that your helping him will be taking away your energy and dragging you down. Your becoming live statues (frozen) can represent being helpless, feeling that there isn't anything you can do.
