The past year life has changed dramatically for me. And lately I have been having the most vivid, creepy dreams. The reoccurences are usually, somebody in peril, that I must save. And always, big, bright shining beams of light on water. Usually in lake or ocean form. The only time I ever feel comfortable in the dreams is once I'm in the water, or when I realise how to save the one in peril, I am in the water.

    Any help is appreciated :)

A lot depends on who it is you're saving. Always the same person? Always a man/woman? Blonde/brunette/redhead etc?

My initial reactin is that these are positive dreams, largely "true to [waking] life." Your dream self is active and effective, not just a passive bystander; and I don't think anyone is really "comfortable" in a rescue situation until he or she has decided what to do and started doing it.

Still, a lot of what these dreams mean depend on the specifics; and on what's going on in your life. If you are hesitant to share the details of that latter publicly, this forum does have a private message feature.

First, thank you for taking the time to respond to my thread :)

The person/animal I am saving is always vastly different. Lost souls who became stuck in the depths of hell, my dog on 2 occasions, a very poverty stricken family, a bird with a broken wing being tortured... the only similarity I find is that they all need help, and I am the only one that can/will do it.

My life is actually changing so much in a positive way. I landed a very good position in a very good career that I love, were doing so well financially we can finally buy a house, me and my husband are doing amazing (2 years now), my dog is goofy as ever... dont know what causes these weird dreams. I dont drink at all, or do any drugs so I have no idea where these dreams are coming from.

When all is said and done, the meaning of any dream is highly personal to the dreamer, so keep in mind that the possibilities I'm listing are speculation on my part. If any of them "fit", free associate with them, reflect, meditate ... see how they "personalize."

This reminds me of some of the dreams I had when I started keeping a dream diary, which (1) often compensated for a typically humdrum, routine waking life; and (2) hinted at capabilities which I was almost unaware of. It might be that those capacities you have to build a relationship and a career are also those that can come in handy in a life-or-death (or heaven-or-hell) emergency.
If, or to the extent that, this is the case, keep in mind that dreams deal in metaphor. You're not being called to chuck that career and join a rescue squad, but are in your own way a "rescuer" in the context of your own life.

It could also be that, as your lot in waking life improves, you have "rescued" aspects of yourself (represented, again metaphorically, by the "rescuees") and given them new life.

Alternatively, it might be that as you progress in your career you are paying less attention to "the least of these": perhaps to waking-life sufferers or perhaps to those same aspects of yourself that "need rescuing." After all, we tend to define "success" and "acheivment" in this society on a very narrow, economic and self-centered basis; and to ignore or overlook dreams and non-logical thought processes as "unreal."

I'll remind you, these are speculations on my part; and may or may not fit you; and I offer them only as possibilities from which you can find your own answer. Keep in mind that one very real possibility is that your dreams are to compensate for a waking life which, however successful, probably lacks the excitement these dreams bring you.

Don't worry about these dreams. They really strike me as positive. You're proactive in them, and that's all to the good. In fact, the experience of them may be more important than the "deep meanings", important as these are.

Finally, pay attention to your other recalled dreams, those not involving rescues. They may provide a context that will help you arrive at those meanings. and keep posting!
