It hasn't been that long since I've had a dream where I'm driving a vehicle. I lost my privileges to drive since June 2014 because since November of 2013 I began to binge drink and it progressively got worse. I was an excellent driver, ever since I first took the wheel. I was a natural. I haven't really driven much since. I know how to drive but not doing it for so long I don't feel confident. It feels unsettling. Anyways, in my dreams...I'm driving my car and I feel drunk, the police is chasing me, where I decide to crash into something (I don't know to hurt myself I guess) then I'd be in less trouble if I'm hurt? In another dream I notice I'm going the wrong way against traffic and when I try to change gears the knob breaks and I am unable to shift in reverse to get out. Finally in other dreams I either lost my car and spend the rest of the dream looking for it. Or when I try to drive mine/sisters/in-laws car it feels really hard to drive like I have to hold down the breaks in order to not damage the car. Driving forward goes too fast and so does reverse and I always hit something. I always think in my dreams that it it's just a dream because they feel real.
Well, this has to do with your experiences with driving, but in the dream driving can also represent something bigger in your life. Traveling in a dream usually represents the path you're taking lin life, and being in a car in a dream can have something to do with how much control you have. See https://www.dreaming.life/dream-themes/travel-dreams.htm. (Your choice of user name seems to be appropriate.) So deciding to crash into something could have to do with a fear that you'll making a decision in life that could end up putting you in danger, and going the wrong way in the car could have to do with a fear that you're going in the wroing direction in life. Losing your car could have to do with feeling that you've lost your ways in life. These dreams are not prophecies. They are just telling you how you feel and in fact, they play a positive role in that they can help you think about your fears and what you can do to prevent your worst fears from happening, so you can take charge of your life. On a medical note, have you cut down your drinking? Alchohol suppresses REM sleep, so when you cut down on drinking you could experience REM rebound, which could cause you to have lots of vivid dreams.
