There are two dreams that I have had from time to time for many years. I had one of them again last night, which has prompted me to post a question here, hoping someone can tell me what these dreams mean (if anything). I will post my other frequent recurring dream in a separate thread...

One of the dreams I have is that I am driving my car and am unable to make it stop. I step as hard as I can on the brake -- sometimes even stand up in the car with my foot on the brake - but the car will not stop. It will slow way down until it is just creeping, but I am never able to make it completely stop.

This dream always causes me anxiety because in the dream I am always in danger of hitting something, or going off the edge of a cliff, if I cannot get my car to stop.

That's all there is to the dream - it's pretty simple, really - but the fact that I have had it so many times over so many years makes me think it must be connected to something in my subconscious....

Any insights are appreciated! Thanks for reading this thread.

I think these dreams are about losing control over something in your life.

Do you have them at times when you are feeling particularly overwhelmed?

I've never paid attention to when I have this dream. But now that you've planted the thought, the next time I have it I will consider what's going on in my life at the time. Your explanation makes sense.

I myself have this dream often. I am driving and try to come to a complete stop but I never quite stop...its like I am sliding on ice and fear I will run someone over...I am really intersted too why I have this reoccurring dream.

I think it has to do with a fear of losing control.

This must be a common theme because I too have these dreams a lot. Sometimes it's pitch-black and not only can I not stop, but can't see where to hell I'm going.

I had this dream last night

I could see where i was going but i coudnt stop it and i had my little cousin in the care withme. I've been having this dream since i was young. But now as i grow, other people are in the car with me. I didnt want to hit anyone on the road and my little cousin was steering, i was trying to guide him on how to drive it. BTW I;m 13 so i dont know how to drive either.. And then we felt the car start to flip over slowly like it was tilting first. And then the scene of my dream switched to some of my family mixed with friends seeing me and my little cousin walk up a hill and i think we were dirty. They were saying things like ''Is that Vanna(me) and Ramond (My cousin) walking up the hill?''. What does this dream mean and why does it happen so often. Explain Please.?

Well, as you can see from the other posts, it is quite a common dream and usually has to do with feeling that you don't have control of something.

It's interesting that as you've grown older you have other people in the car with you. I think those people represent parts of your personality that you are developing as you grow.

I think walking up the hill could have to do with your moving up to a new stage in life, which makes sense for your age.

This to me signifys your fear of being OUT OF CONTROL. There are things you need to get a handle on in present time....no woorries you can handle it come what may..
