Last night I had a dream that seemed to go on forever, staring an unknown man. In the dream I seemed to be out "on the town" with friends on a long party night, moving from one party to another (in unknown persons houses). I remember waiting for trams, hailing cabs and going into rooms full of drunk or semi-drunk people at various parties or bars. It was set in an unknown town and in unknown houses.

At one of the first places - some kind of party - a young man with very dark red hair seemed to take a shine to me. He struck me as a very odd person - a guy in the center of attention of a group of best friends (his friends were all girls that had known him "forever", but just his friends.) He was oddly dressed and very melodramatic; theatrically bowing and praising me, making faces, blinking, exhaggerating everything, gesticulating etc. He was quite skinny and I remember thinking that I was a bit too adult, tall and strong and curvy to possibley be a women of his taste or take him seriously. I left the place with my friends and he seemed very hurt that I left.

At the next place, he showed up again and his girlfriends were now encouraging him to talk to me, whispering and nuddging him. One of them even told me to, "give him a chance, since he really, really likes you". I still thought he was a weirdo, but not unpleasant - so I was polite and talked to him - altough in a very patronizing way. It seemed he was getting odder and odder with every hour; but it is hard to describe what it was about him that I found so weird. He was very high strung and talked a lot, and said that he had been struck by love at first sight and that he was panicking about me leaving. This second meeting, I noticed that he was physically hurt as well; it looked like he had been in an accident and he had recent cuts and bruises on him.

I left again, with my friends. At yet another place, the same guy showed up; with more wounds on him. It looked like if he had been in a fight. This time I just laugh at the coincidence of meeting him again and actually felt pleased to see him. He was carrying an old, thick book shaped like a vinyl record with a fake vinyl record cover (a single). He started going through the contents of the book (it looked like it was handwritten, with news clips and photos etc) and in the dream I realise that it was his lifes story and that he was trying to let me get to know him to love him back.

I have never seen this man or his female friends before this dream.

Does this odd man remind you of anyone in reality? Why did you find his behavior odd? What was it about you he liked? These could be clues.

    Odd stranger

    Hi,

No, the young man does not remind me of anyone at all. The way he looks or acts does not even "ring a bell" if I try to think of film actors or distant aquaintances - and he is definitely not like anyone I have known or know in reality.

It was his behaviour I found odd although he also looked a bit different; shoulder-length red hair (dyed dark red - like some brunettes do), pointy nose and tight clothing. At one of the encounters, his friends have plaited his hair in loads of little plaits. I suppose it is his instant infatuation with me in the dream that, at first, my dream-self imagines must be a pose, but as the dream progresses I start to find genuine. Also he acts like if he is embarassed by his own behaviour and he acts apologetic for coming on so strong. Frankly, his is very hard to describe since I dont have anything to compare him too. At first I cannot find anything attractive about him; he is like a joke, but as he returns in the dream, I start to like him more and more because he seems truthful and humoristic.

I haven't got a clue what it is about me that he likes. The only part of the dream that touches on that subject is my own dream-character who thinks that he must be mistaken and that I could not possible be the right woman for him. (Because I'm older? Stronger? Very authoritative? Very serious? Calm and restrictive? Something like that.) I suppose that for the first part of the dream I think he is stringing me along, making fun of me - but after a while I start to believe he actually means what he is saying.

When I woke up from having the dream, I could only think that it must be what is called an "animus" character; an unknown, young man trying to tell me something about myself.

    I thought of that too.
