My father recently died in december. My entire life, ive been troubled by extremely vivid nightmares. I am now 22, still having nightmares, seemingly about randomly anything, most of the time i wake up terrified, or still paralyzed from sleep, screaming, sweating, and anxious. I remember the nightmare with much detail. My father was very ill for about 2years, he was an alcoholic to the most extreme, and recently he died in a hospital of a combination of things, the underlying factor was liver failure though. I was not present, in fact no one was. We talked about once or twice a week, and I worried about his safety and wellbeing all the time. Since his death, I still have been having nightmares, but i cannot remember what they are about. I still wake up scared, sweaty, and anxious, but i dont remember anything about the dream content. My roommates say i scream in my sleep now, which ive never been told before. My sleep is very disrupted, i wake up constantly from these nightmare i dont remember and i am always tired. My question is, if i cant remember them, how do i get them to stop? And, what does these mean? How come i can no longer remember them?
Hi and welcome. What you are experiencing sounds like night terrors. People don't recall dreams after waking from night terrors. I suggest talking to your doctor about visiting a sleep lab. There, they will hook you up to a sleep monitor and watch as you sleep to determine what is going on. Good luck!
