I just had one of my most memorable nightmares in a while, and it had to be about computers. I often dream about them. There was this one dream when I was using five mice at once. And another where I heard a 'leak' that Apple was going to buy Microsoft.

In real life I own a 13-inch MacBook Pro (high-end Apple laptop). It has been my only computer for almost 3 years. I love it to bits. Anyway, the dream:

My roommate and I almost managed to see the burglar, but he got away before we could find him. We didn't know what he had stolen, until I realised with horror that he had taken (among other things) my precious MacBook Pro.

We reported it to the police as soon as possible. At least one of my roommates' computers was also stolen, so we went to the computer shop to buy a new one. I needed a computer right away, so until they found mine, I decided to rent a much cheaper laptop.

My very expensive tower PC had been stolen too. (I didn't admit this to anyone, mainly because I was too ashamed to admit that I'd bought it in the first place. That particular computer would have been a very frivolous purchase, both in the dream and real life. In the dream, I wasn't even sure if I had one, or if I just remembered it from a previous dream (but I was not lucid).

There were several of the cheap laptops available to rent, but none cheap enough. And when I looked at it from the side, it was actually be an old Apple computer from 10 years ago. I left emptyhanded.

Later, only a day after the burglary, the receptionist of the hotel we lived in told me there was good news, and handed me my MacBook Pro (implying it had been recovered by the police). I asked him if they had found a tower PC as well, but he said they hadn't. He also gave me a big handful of coins. And while I was a little disappointed to not have the tower PC, I was overjoyed to get my laptop back.

I ran upstairs excitedly told my roommates the good news, while hugging my laptop, but I didn't get a response. One of them shouted at the TV because she was playing Skyrim, and the other two just said nothing. The dream ended there.

If this happened in real life, it have been less of a problem, because I have a backup drive. Evidently my subconscious didn't think of that.

It is unusual for me to remember this much from a dream. Furthermore, it is even rarer for a dream, let alone a nightmare, to resolve itself like this. If your dreams are anything like mine, then they end arbitrarily without a proper conclusion.

Since you dream about computers so much, I wonder if for you, the computers in your dream represent you, or your mind or your thoughts, especially since a computer is kind of like a brain.

I think that all of the computers being stolen in the dream are a message that you feel something important is being taken from you.

It's interesting that you rent a cheap laptop, but you are also embarrassed about buying an expensive Tower PC. I think the dream could have to do with how much you value yourself. At the end of the dream, you're happy to get your in-between lap-top (not cheap, but not overly expensive like the Tower), so the dream could be telling you to look at yourself more realistically.
