I wouldnt have ever suspected to be posting on a forum such as this. But I had a dream two days ago that has bothered me since. I suppose it wasnt the dream as much as it was the real life events directly after I woke up.

My name is John and i'm a firefighter. January 8, 2012 at 7:20 a.m., I was asleep in my bed at the fire house and I had a dream of Nichole, a friend/co-worker from my part time job. In this dream I was sitting at a table in a local bar when I seen my friend Nichole sitting at a nearby table. So I take what seemed to be a wadded up napkin and toss it at her (as I sometimes do in real life) to get her attention. When she turned and seen me, I gave her a wave 'hello'. She gave a big smile and returned the wave. And that was the end of my dream as I was woken by our station 'tones' and the dispatcher's voice. The dispatcher called out 'structure fire, such and such address.' I recognized the address to be right next door to where Nichole lived. When our fire crew arrived on scene I realized that it was not the house next door, it was indeed Nicholes house that was on fire. Her car was in the driveway so I frantically called her cell phone to which she did not answer.

The fire investigators said they believed the fire to be burning for at least 20minutes before we arrived. Through experience, I could tell with the conditions of her house that there was very little chance of surviving. Nichole and her two girls, age 6 and 22 months, died in that house.

So now I'm drawn back to my dream. Was I trying to get her attention by tossing that napkin to just say 'hello' or was I trying to warn her of something? Was our 'hello' waves actually saying our last goodbyes?

Any comments or suggestions are welcomed. Thank you.

Rest in Peace Nichole, Maddy & little Brynn

I'm very sorry about what happened.

Before this incident, was it normal for you to dream about Nichole or was this the first time you have dreamed about her in a long time or the first time ever?

I think that your throwing a note at her in the dream could have been a warning that something was wrong and you wanted to get her attention.

Have you been to her house before?

If so, is it possible that, unconsciously, you sensed that there was something unsafe about the house or about how she behaves in the house - e.g. smoking around the house and not being careful about it?

As a firefighter, you are probably much more aware of these things than the average person.

    How did the fire start?

    Marcia, thanks for the response.
As far as I can recall I don't believe that I've ever had a dream about Nichole. Also the closest I've been to her house before that day was just driving by her street. She lives at the end of a cul de sac. I knew that she smoked but was unsure if she smoked inside. It appears from the fire investigation that she did her smoking outside the back door.
The fire investigation is complete but still waiting on the final autopsy report. The investigators could find no evidence of electrical problems win the room it started in and a heater malfunction wasn't the cause either. The best they could determine was that one of the children was playing with a lighter probably taken from her purse (where her cigarettes were found) and started the fire.
The home had no smoke detectors which very well could have saved their lives.

Interesting. It's hard to say whether you were worried about her for some reason or whether you somehow "knew" that something was wrong.

Maybe when you find out the cause of the fire, it will help more.

I believe she was telling good bye. Things like this have happened to people I've known but in different circumstances of course. Myself, I have had a similar thing happen to me only in the waking world where an aunt in hospital let me know she was dying. While visiting my Mother-in-law in hospital, the lady in the bed beside her was lying very still. Of a sudden I saw my aunt there in here bed.I KNEW she was Dying!! I drove home as fast as I could and called about my aunt and sure enough the doctors were calling all family to the hospital as my aunt was dying...Spooky . But REAL ...
