I had an extremely weird dream just last night, that I'm really kind of confused about. If someone would please help me out, I'd appreciate it.

I was in the basement of the house that I live in with my grandpa, the basement being my haven because it's away from everyone else. There were a few differences between life and dream of course, the second room was larger and there was a door set into the side, which I was forbidden to open. In this dream I was sitting on a couch in the other room of the basement, playing my guitar, when I get this incredible urge to go into the second room and open the door. So powerful that I can't resist, though I know the door is always locked. The door was unlocked, and opened easily when I tried. All I could see was blackness. Then I heard a startled gasp, and a girl that looked to be about 12 or so walked out and told me, "You are not the master." Although there was no one else in the house, I got the feeling that I was the only one capable of seeing her. When she walked into the room with me a man who looked like a pirate followed her. They told me that my grandpa possessed a power to move through time, though only at 3:00AM in the morning, having something to do with the fact that 3:00AM my time is midnight in California. The girl told my that when my grandpa had first discovered this talent that he had abused it, and gone back in time and kidnapped her and the pirate using weapons from the present. He wanted to use them to gain more money, by stealing their wealth from that time, and also to take them to other times to help him steal from other wealthy people, to sell in the present day. They told me that secretly the wealth he had pilfered was false, because money from the past can only be given willingly to the future, and so in truth, if they ever returned to their own time, he would have nothing, and that I could help them. The pirate and girl told me that I had a pure heart, and also had the same power as my grandpa, and so at three in the morning after she had explained to me how to use it, I could take them back. I agreed, because in the dream my grandpa was something of a tyrant. The girl told me that she could only teach me at three in the morning, because that is when she is most real to my world. The first two nights I slept right through the time she had told me to meet her. But the mornings after I would always find notes in a notebook discribing how things could be done. On the third night I went down to talk to them some more. And in return for being so vigilant, they gave to me the things my grandpa had stolen. The pirate gave me many gold coins, and the girl gave me a leather pouch filled with pink, blue, white and yellow gems. When they gave me those, my grandpa's disappeared, and he came downstairs looking for them, and I hid them in my guitar case, and I don't remember anything after that.

    Wow!

The hidden room in the basement in the dream could be a metaphor for the unconscious. The unconscious holds desires, fears, those parts of our personality we keep hidden to most people, and conflicts we have not resolved.

Psychologist Carl Jung also said that dreams of this type are ancestral in nature. He believed that we harbor in our cells unconscious memories of our ancestors. So your dream has these elements as well--past and present.

This dream may deal too with your past as a child of about 12, like the girl. And your grandfather represents the shadow part of your personality. So the dream may deal with the hidden part of the personality and a conflict with the past. Since the basement is your "haven away from everyone else," This suggests that the dream is putting your subconscious into dream images.

Wow, didn't think that way. If it helps any, I remembered a very little bit more. My grandpa came downstairs and was a little suspisious of me being there at that time. And he was angry, and I remember being very afraid of him, but very good at hiding it from him. He didn't really think to look in my guitar bag, but he searched everywhere else.

Took me a long time of thinking hard to remember that much, so that's all I've got. Thank you very much for helping me out.
