I have had 3 dreams of my father after he has passed. He has been dead for 10 years now. The first was a dream in which he was alive agian and we were talking. I was touching his face. It all seemed so real. The second we were in my bathroom together and he was giving me advice.
Now last night I had another dream about him. This time my mom had arranged for me to see him, and all day I was preparing to see him agian. Later that evening I met up with him. We were running through the streets together and I remember thinking isn't he going to get tired, he isn't as young as he used to be. But he kept running with me. We got to a MacDonald's. We were waiting in line and we both had our right hand on the counter. Now I am a woman and have small hands. His hand was even smaller than mine. Like a child's. I confronted him and said, "you are not my father!" He replied, " Yes I am." And he was trying to convice me. I said to him, "Tell me something that only you and I would know" He had told me a phrase that I dont remember now, and it was right. But I still didn't believe him. That was when the dream ended. Any thoughts on this one?

Well, it is normal to dream about people who are deceased as though they were alive because they are still alive in your memory.

Did you depend on your father for advice when he was alive?

The dream where his hands are like a child's makes me think that of you and he switching roles. Now you are the adult and you have to be responsible and make your own decisions. Maybe you even have children of your own to care for.

It's interesting that you were running to a place where food is served (MacDonald's) because being fed represents having your needs taken care of.

    Missing My Dad

I have been having some unsettling dreams myself and would like some insight. My Dad passed away about about 8 months ago and we were extremely close. I miss him everyday. I have been having frequent dreams about him being alive for different reasons. He will show up at my place of work and tell me a story of why he pretended to die, or he'll just dismiss me for being upset in the first place and tell me everything is fine and I was mistaken about his death. What do you think it all means? I miss him much and when I wake up from these dreams I feel like I have to grieve his passing all over again.

Kristen, the type of dream that you have is very typical of mourning. It is your brain trying to deal with the fact that he was once alive and now he is dead. When you dream, your brain processes memories, and is the processing is taking place, the memories get all mixed up so your brain doesn't get the concept of time, that once your father is dead he can't be alive again. So you have a memory of your father being alive that is coming up and your brain is trying to explain how that happened.

By the way, my father has been dead for almost 6 years and I still have dreams that are like that. It is totally normal.
