Meaning of dream about golden gates, passageways and deciding who will live or die?

A close friend of mine had the following dream and although I helped him interpret he still feels there is something important missing and it is playing heavily on his mind. He doesn’t dream often and reported this dream was so vivid that there must be an important message for him. He has had some serious life changing experiences in the last 12 months. After years of unhappiness he made the decision to separate from his wife, found a new place to live, shared custody arrangements of children, property settlement etc. Healing from the past and being on a journey of personal growth is a big feature for him at present. I asked he would like me to submit the dream on this forum and he agreed hoping someone could offer some further insight. Any help or further insight would be appreciated.

The dream as he told it to me.
He is on some sort of journey with a man and a woman. These people were not familiar to him, but are with him throughout the dream. They all reach a golden gate. Somehow it is able to open the gate and it leads into a passageway. A discussion takes place between the three of them and the man walks into the passageway. When he comes back he informs my friend and the woman that they need to find 299 other people to walk into this passageway, but one of them will die. If he doesn’t find 299 other people the man will die. He said he didn’t know where these people were coming from, but they appeared and were walking through the golden gate and through the passageway. My friend gets to decide who will die. The person who dies can also be the first man (who was on the journey with my friend), and he gets to decide. The man talks with my friend about whether he will be the one that is chosen to go and my friend says ‘we’ll talk about it’. My friend reported having no feelings of attachment to the man and is not fussed if he is the one to go. He reported having no feelings of note about the woman either. The dream stopped before any decision was made.

I think this means that your friend has to make a big decision before he can completely free and happy. The journey to the gate is you growing and the man and woman are your guides to get you the where you want to go. The decision he has to make seems to be very important and life changing to someone in and good or bad way. Dying in a bream isn't alway bad because it means that the part they were fighting was killed off and they can be happy. I hope this helps a little and good luck.
