I was at wal-mart today and saw a black crow on the roof of my car, as I approached the car, the shiny jet black crow with green eyes looked at me and turned to it's left and nodded his head up and down, he then did this second time. As I opened the car door he watched me unfazed. It looked at me once more and flew away it the opposite direction.

The two times he turned and nodded, his head was pointing towards my mothers house and my brothers house whom both live to the left of wal-mart. I am estranged from the both of them. It may mean nothing, but it sure felt strange. Any idea's

Being estranged from your mother and brother is a big deal - even though consciously you may have accepted the fact and moved on from it - so I think the dream is definitely related to them in some way.

Can you think of any reason why your unconscious would be making you think about your relationship with your mother and brother now?

Crows can symbolize wisdom, so the crow in the dream could represent a part of your unconscious that is trying to point something out to you about something that is happening with your mother and brother.

Traditioanlly, crows can also have negative symbolism (although I personally love crows so that would not apply to me and might not apply to you either), so that could have to do with the negative emotions in your family.

    I see what your saying

Without going into details, it is important that I remain disassociated from them, one brother is a drug dealer, and the other and my mom are co-conspiriters. While I've found my peace in being on the outside, they haven't and continue to attempt to dirty my name or what ever. I built a strong wall and I don't respond to anything negative.

I wasn't making judgements and I respect your reasons for not remaining in contact with them. The fact that the dream came now could be sign that there is something in your own life that you need to look at, though.

I am assuming this was a real life experience. Reality can be interpreted as one would a dream scene. The Wal-Mart location can indicate a situation in which you might be inclined or tempted to sell yourself on a new idea. [In this case it seems probably one that relates with your mother and brother.]

The crow, being a bird, can refer to a spiritual feeling or concept and also to a “spirit of intent”/simply an intention. Here the intent/intention pertains to the rationale you are using (crow on the roof of the car) when putting yourself in a position to sell yourself on a new idea. As the crow nods in the direction of your mother and brother’s houses, the intent can relate with the idea of acknowledging these relatives or showing acceptance of them (as in a nod of approval).

Because you have specifically noted the jet blackness of the crow, the intent in question is simply a very negative one, one that is completely unenlightened and thus unintelligent. The green eyes noted would emphasize that the understanding or the belief behind such an intent of giving a sign of acknowledgement to mother and brother reflects very worldly thinking. [I would suppose that upon hearing of your estrangement from mother and brother, that most well meaning friends have been urging you to reconcile with them.] Yet in this living experience the crow nods 2 times, indicating that giving this nod of acceptance would be a negative and wrong act on a spiritual level.

[While it is very distressing and unfortunate that you have felt a need to avoid your mother and brother, the Lord actually expects us to avoid those who do not live according to the law, especially His Law. We cannot be with Him while also being with those you disobey the law. We have to make a choice. In the experience you had, the crow had delivered the message.]

As far as a crow representing wisdom is concerned, I would find that impossible to accept –because if a form is black and black represents the absence of light, thus showing that there is no light, enlightenment or intelligence related to the form – how can it possibly reflect the idea of wisdom ??? Dream dictionaries that say things like this should be scrapped. They are helping no one hear the Lord’s message.

I don't think a human being has the ability to judge what is or isn't according to God's law - if such a thing exists. You can choose whether or not to associate with someone based on your own sense of morality and what you think is healthy for you, but it is wrong to impose your ideas of what is God's law on other people.

There is now way of knowing whether or not your are obeying or disobeying God's law because you have no way of knowing what God's law is. All you can do is make assumptions based on what other human beings, who are imperfect like all human beings, told you what God's law is.

This has nothing to do with dream dictionaries. Crows are among the most intelligent animals on Earth.

Crows Have Human-Like Intelligence, Author Says

But people have not had to do scientific research to see that crows are intelligent. Crows and humans have lived together on Earth for a very long time and I am sure people would have been able to figure out that they are very intelligent animals just by observing them.

I also question the idea that in a dream something black always represents lack of enlightenment or intelligence. In many cultures, black does not represent this. And how does that work regarding people who have dark skin?

“I don't think a human being has the ability to judge what is or isn't according to God's law - if such a thing exists.” : I think Marcia and I are on a different page when it comes to interpreting Scripture. Let’s just agree to disagree on this issue. What I think we can all agree on is that when a good apple is placed in a barrel of bad apples, it soon turns bad and that the Lord loves righteousness.

Crows may be among the most intelligent animals on earth – but so is Satan and we don’t call him wise. Actually, if you wish to view the crow as representing a form of wisdom, that would be OK – IF, you include the idea that this form of wisdom is black. The dreamer specifically mentioned a “a shiny jet black crow which implies that this form of wisdom appears to reflect some light/intelligence (shiny) but it still is a form of wisdom that is black/dark wisdom. This is what Scripture speaks of in 2Corinthians 11:14 “…. for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.” He provides light/knowledge or wisdom that seems protective and beneficial but really serves him. A white bird, for comparison purposes, would indicate a form of innocence or truth. The crow is not white!

Nature(God) gives us back in the dark/black of the night. What is missing? – light of the sun – there is no enlightenment. Science in the study of colours also shows that black absorbs all light so none is reflected back. Some cultures may hold a different opinion of black but again, they are not seeing Nature(God) as the true guide.

People who are Caucasian, when dreaming of a dark skinned person are seeing “an idea” that their own mind has recognized as negative/wrong or simply very emotionally coloured/biased. Dark skinned people when dreaming of a white person are seeing “an idea” that their mind has recognized as being correct and not emotionally coloured. Other dark skinned people in their dreams would have no special significance based on their colour. This has nothing to do with race but simply with the meaning of colours. Black and white are accepted as right and wrong, good and bad. The meaning of colours must be allowed to speak all across the board from animals to objects to people with the same significance or they lose all significance. It is a convenience for deriving meaning from our dreams.

A dream based interpretation based on "Scripture" is only useful to those who believe that Scripture is the truth. The symbols in a dream reflect the values and experiences of the dreamer. For example, if the OP had said that they used to raise crows, or if they had once been attacked by crows and hospitalised, than these things would have a strong effect on the meaning of the dream. (Of course I am giving an exaggerated example, but I think you know what I mean.)

It is the same with colours. Different colours have different meanings in different cultures and they could also have different personal meanings.

I agree that intelligence and wisdom are separate things. But dream symbolism tends to simplify things, so that wisdom and intelligence are seen as the same thing. There really isn't any such things as a "wise" non-human animal in waking life, as far as we know, because wisdom requires a certain higher level of abstract thinking.

My main concern is that the OP obviously some has troubling family issues, and I don't think it's a good idea to try to impose a strict set of beliefs on someone, or convince them that set of beliefs is the only one to follow, when they are already in a vulnerable emotional position. Let them make their own decisions and do what feels healthy and right for them.
