Last nights dream is rather complicated but I'll cut to the chase...it ended with my brothers car rolling down the hill out of control, he had been locked out but his dog (which died several years back) was in the car by itself. I was in another car with my older brother, we followed Roberts car to try and rescue Felix (his dog). It went througha busy interesction and crashed on the other side of the road - the dog was OK. I have my own ideas what this may be about. Last September I gave up cigarettes. I was off them for 6 months, then earlier this year started again when a friend of mine broke up with his partner. Since then I've not smoked much (maybe one or two a day) but would like to quit again. There are other things I want to give up also and I can't help but feel the car represented me feeling out of control - heading for what I see as the dangers of smoking and the other things I want to give up. Any shared thoughts would be good. As to why I dreamt of my brothers dog I have no idea...
I think you are probably right about the dream representing you feeling out of control. As for your brother's dog, what kind of dog was it? A big, tough watchdog? A little lapdog?
I asked because the dog's personality might have to do with what the dog represents in the dream. For example, if it was a watchdog, it might symbolize something that used to make you feel safe and protected.
Felix was a very intelligent and playful dog - not really a watch dog but she was a good hound. I was in my mid teens I guess when Robert and Denise got Felix - she did once rescue my brother from the road. He'd passed out drunk in the middle of the road one night and he must had had Felix with him while walking home anyway, she dragged him by the cuff of his jacket off the road.
It does sound like your interpretation of being out of control is correct. The dog sounds like something that you loved and would want to protect, but in the dream you weren't able to do so.
