My best friend died tragically in a house fire a few years ago. Last time I spoke to him we had a fight. I was ignoring his calls and text in the few days before he died. Every so often I'll be having a normal dream and all of a sudden ill see him. I imedatly realize that this can be possible because hes dead. I then try to talk to him and he always looks very shocked/surprised when he sees me. And try's to speak but nothing comes out. Then he runs away I chase him but never catch up. Then i Wake up in a cold sweat. Alot of times its totally random. For example I was in a store and I saw him in line, then I realize it was happing and the chase begins. He never says 1 word.

I know there's the guilt I have for ignoring his calls ect. But really would like to stop having this reecouring dream. Any ideas of the meaning and how to make them stop?

Also about a month before this he had taken a silver necklace a gift from my grandpa.
2 weeks after our fight he died in a house fire. He had been my next door neighbor and best friend from the time I was 5. He had sent me 4 texts including one the day before his death asking me to please just talk to him. I really wish in the dream he would talk to me but he always looks scared and gets away. I wake up imedatly in a cold sweat and very sad . I want to stop reliving this dream over and over. Or at least be able to speak to him. Tell him I'm sorry for not responding and for that horrible fire he couldn't escape.

Please any advice on how to stop it or how to speak to him. I know it's not him, it's just my brain, but it is difficult having these dreams all the time even 4 years later.

    Thanks ahead of time.

It seems pretty clear to me that this dream is about the guilt you feel. I think what will help them stop will be your understanding is that your fight did not cause his death.

I was once told by a bereavement counselor that one of the most common feelings that people have after the death of someone close is anger that the person died while leaving an issue unresolved.

Maybe you can speak to someone who can let you get more in touch with your feelings and let them out.
