The first dream I had last night was pretty common with some details I haven't heard of before. I felt as though I was falling but every direction I looked was completely black and featureless. In my head I began to think of this song my Dad recently made up (we're both songwriters). What's funny is the nature of this song is purely comical. But as I began to think of this song and run it through in my head I looked down and noticed a tiny red dot. It was as if I was falling toward it. As I was thinking of this song the dot got larger and larger till it was about the size of a quarter. Then I woke up. When I fell asleep again I had a really bizarre dream I've never heard about before. I was walking in a beautiful green hilly field along a fence. I came across this horse that was about half buried in the dirt not far off from the fence. Curious as to what was going on I went up to it. I noticed it was still breathing very shallow. I panicked and began to dig the horse out with my hands. Then I thought I should go to someone for help. Then I realized I had no idea where I was or what I was doing way out in this field. Then I woke. I want to mention as well I don't own horses or live next to them. I don't mind horses but I don't particularly love them either. Any ideas?
Well, there is the usual symbolism of red being associated with things like passion and anger, and a sensation of falling having to do with a loss of control - the red dot could represent something that has power over you - but since you are a songwriter and the red dot was getting bigger as you were thinking of the song, I think it might also have something to do with emotions engendered by the song. Even though you say the song is comical, there might be more to it underneath. I also think there could be a bit of synesthesia involved here, which sometimes happens in altered states of consciousness, with the change is size of the red dot being associated with music in your head. A horse can represent strength and freedom; it is also a method of transportation. So the idea of a horse being buried can have to do with you feeling that our freedom is being curtailed so that you can't get to where you truly want to be in life. That could relate to the symbolism of the overpowering red dot, too. Your noticing that the horse was still breathing and your trying to dig it out could be a message that you stil have the opportunity to achieve your goals.
