Last night, my husband awoke with our fan falling off of our dresser. Well I don't know what kind of dream I was having because I woke up like I was being killed. Anyway, when he went to get out of bed to get the fan, I thought someone was in our house trying to murder us. Well I woke up with such a fright, I started screaming this horrible scream I was like frozen, I couldn't move, my head was tingling and my whole body felt the same way. Wow, as I am typing this my head is starting to feel weird and my arms are getting goose bumps. All the whole while, when I am screaming, I feel like I can't stop screaming and I feel like I can't move and that I am outside of my body. Up to two hours after this happened last night, everytime I thought of the episode, my eyes watered and my body felt all tingly and my heart boy was it racing. Anyway can anyone tell me what this could have been. I have heard that fright and being scared so bad could kill you out of a dream or sleep, but I have never felt this way before. I couldn't even get back to bed right away last night, every time I tried to close my eyes I kept going back to what happened and that evil things or people were going to kill me in my sleep. Thanks for reading my post......... Hope
It doesn't happen too often for most people, thankfully, but it's not uncommon either. I've had what seems like semi-awake dreams where it feels like something dreadful was going to happen to me, like there's an evil presence in the room with me, which left me feeling really spooked so I was afraid to be in bed for an hour or so... then later it's completely gone and I feel totally fine like it was just a distant dream and nothing to worry about at all. I think it's most likely that these dreama are uber frightening and the shock of them when they wake us up wipes the memory instantly so all you have left from the dream is the instinctual feeling of impending doom.
This sounds like it could be sleep paralysis. There is a thread about it here: https://www.dreaming.life/dreaming/threads/did-my-sister-visit-me.1005/ I think the sound of the fan falling - or the sensation that it was about to fall - may have woken you up suddenly, so that your mind was awake but your body didn't have a chance to get out of its paralysed dream state.
