Hi, all! This is my first time posting and I had a nightmare that I just can't let go of. It is really bothering me and I hope someone can give me some information on what it might possibly mean. My husband and I were driving in the middle of nowhere at nighttime and he ended up going into the woods (there wasn't a clear transition between the driving and when he entered the woods). I was sitting in the car and saw a large man chasing after him and trying to attack him. He made it to the car and we drove away. The rest of the dream takes place at a house in the middle of nowhere that feels to be our home (although not our house in real life). I call the cops and tell them what happen. The cops show up at our house with the man I saw chasing my husband and two other accomplices who I did not know were involved. They wanted us to identify the culprit. The attackers end up getting away and try to stab us with nail files. Interestingly enough, I felt as threatened by the nail files as I would if they were knives. I was able to take the "weapons" from them with ease and they suddenly didn't feel as much of a threat. I felt proud that I was able to protect myself and my husband and the cops took the attackers away. I hope someone has some insight because I just can't stop thinking about this! Thanks for your help!
Driving, or taking any journey, in a dream often represents taking a path in life, while the woods can represent the unknown, so going into the woods can represent entering a new, unfamiliar stage in life that can be frightening because you are worried about what to expect. Your husband in the dream could be your husband in waking life, with the dream being about something that you and he are facing in your life, but he can also represent a part of yourself - a quality that is strong in your husband but which you also have in yourself, or just your "masculine" side - the part of you that is orderly, rational, logical, strong, assertive, etc. The man who chases your husband probably represents something you perceive as a threat. This can be an external threat, or it could be a part of yourself that you see as dangerous and want to repress. Very often, when you dream about a stranger who is attacking you or someone you love, that stranger is really a part of you that you have to learn to face and accept. Being able to take away the weapons and having the cops take the attackers away is a message from your unconscious that you can cope with whatever the threat is.
Hm nail files, something that shouldn't normally be a threat is then used against you as a threat. But you are able to over come this. Maybe you can apply this to situations in your life. Something originally meant to affect your husband then later to effect both your lives.
