I have dreams about my boyfriend cheating on me; however, I am positive he isn't cheating in my waking life. I also had similar dreams when I was with my ex.

I can't control how the dream plays out, and I have not been able to confront the situation in my dream. It's as if I'm watching it, but non-existent.

If I didn't wake up hurt, I probably wouldn't care. I don't even know why I wake up affected.

Can anyone help me prevent these kinds of dreams?

You can't really prevent these dreams without dealing with the anxieties that are causing them.

Even though, intellectually, you know that he isn't cheating on you, you could be feeling, insecure, unconsciously, becaue of issues from your past. This doesn't necessarily have to do with past relationships; it could have to do with childhood issues.

You probably wake up affected by the dream because it is bringing up stuff that your conscious mind wants suppressed.

Think about what could be making you unconsciously feel insecure in your relationship, or in relationships in general.
