I am from Croatia, and dated a boy in Netherlands for 2 years, it was a long distance relationship and we broke up (I wasn't emotionally grown up, and the distance just did its part).

Now I am happily married and have a 3 year old daughter, I feel emotionally grown up and sometimes I wonder how would our love turned up to be if I was grown up then as now.

    --------

I had a dream that goes like this:

I come to Holland to visit our daughter of 12 years. (not real daughter, this is daughter that appeared in my dream)
The daughter was born before we broke up.

I knew I couldn't be with him (I needed a mentally stronger man to help me overcome my childhood traumas with my father and he couldn't deal with my emotions - he was a good listener, but not helpful in a way of giving me guidance how to overcome those traumas - i realize now it was too much to expect from him).
I knew I won't be able to raise a child (to offer a child a good life as he could emotionally and financially at that time).

So I decided to leave a daughter to him and his parents.

So, when she turned 12 years, I go to Holland and I wish to see her.

To tell her that I am sorry, that I wish it turned up different. That I wish to make it all better. But deep inside i know I cannot fix what i have done.

As I enter the room, I see her from the back, she is sitting in chair with long black hair. His parents come and give me a cold look. He enters and gives me a look filled with pain as he wanted to say "why did you come"?

I was opening my mouth, wanting to tell my daughter all I had on my soul, but words didn't come out... I felt as I was suffocating with tears.

Then I woke up in heart-breaking-pain.

    ---------

Please tell me from your experience what is meaning of this dream?

I think the daughter could represent a part of you that you left behind when you broke up. Even though you weren't emotionally grown up when you were in the relationship, leaving this long distance relationship allowed you to move on with your life and then have a more mature relationship (married with a child), so it was a step toward you becoming more mature.

12 years old is around the age where people become physically mature (although nowadays that is far from being mentally or emotionally mature), so the fact that she is 12 in the dream could symbolize the transition from childhood to adulthood, to having adult responsibilities and thinking of things in terms of a longterm future.

The angry grandparents could have to do with you being a little angry at yourself for giving up any chances you had with your ex. Grandparents could also have to do with old, outdated ways of thinking.
