For the last two months or so, I have been having some dreams that are disturbing as well as perplexing, all with one or more of the aforementioned themes...I will outline the dreams here and then answer any specific questions for details regarding myself or my life, as I think that will be easier than trying to anticipate what details are necessary.

I am 25 years old, female, and I have generally a good relationship with my parents, though they are not happy with my choice of boyfriend which has caused a bit of strife, but it seems to be resolved now. My relationship with the boyfriend is very solid and healthy, no strife there. On to the dreams...

    1. I am running along the seashore, where my mother is swimming in the water. The sky is ominous and dark grey, almost black, as before a storm. The water is the same color, and it's restless but not crashing against the shore. I guess you could say there were small waves. Mom was moving smoothly through the water, and I was running along begging her to stop, but she seemed not to notice me. Eventually I get to a house/bungalow, and my dad (I think) tells me to get inside because a storm is coming. He seems unconcerned about mom, and I can't make him understand. Then I woke up.

    2. My cousin (female, same age as myself) and I are in the neighborhood I lived in from 4th - 6th grade. We are walking to the pool, which (in real life and my dream) is full of tall pine trees. We get to the pool and immediately a storm kicks up - loud thunder, terrifying lightning, roaring wind, and we are the only ones there. We decide to leave but have a hard time getting out of the park. It was like being in a tornado. I wake up and can't remember anything beyond this point.

    3. I have bought a house and I am really excited about it. it's a sort of beachy colonial place. I am speaking with the woman I bought it from and we are discussing the furniture, which I like and will be keeping. I tell her I will be taking down the wallpaper in the master bedroom (some kind of yellow floral pattern) and painting the room white, and she is happy about this. In the living room are two big windows that look out over the water, which is calm (it's a clear sunny day) but to me looks ominous. Something about the water makes me very uncomfortable and I wonder if I will be okay in a house on the water. I am then showing the house to my boyfriend, but he is upset with me - I get the impression that he thinks I misrepresented something. This part is kind of fuzzy to me. He says he will not be spending the night with me and instead will sleep at home. I am crushed and instead of sleeping in the master bedroom I end up sleeping in a basement bedroom, which is comfy but not pleasing. Something about the house, though it is in good repair, makes me uneasy. Almost as if I made a hasty decision that wasn't good for me.

Aside from all of the common themes, these dreams all have a creepy aspect that I can't put my finger on. The best way to describe it is a movie in which you KNOW a monster is looking just off-camera, but you can never see it. It's not obvious.

I apologize if this is too long. These dreams do not go away, and every night there is some new permutation. They seem to be almost serial, connected somehow. I wake up after them at around 4:30 every morning, without fail.

    Thank you so much!

Can you tell me what you think all the common themes are so I don't go over the same stuff you already know?

Also do you still live with your parents or not?

I would say the most common aspects are 1) bodies of water and 2) the "atmosphere," for lack of a better term. I always feel either unnerved or flat out scared in these dreams. If my mother is in the dreams, I am usually afraid for her, as if something will happen to her. I am also always afraid of the water in my dreams, even clear blue swimming pools (I've had a couple of dreams with pools, not just the one I posted).

Even though they're not all the same, I will wake up thinking "oh I had one of THOSE dreams."

I had another one that I had forgotten about, in which I was shopping at an underground mall that suddenly flooded with dirty water, full of sticks and mud as if a river had flooded. I was able to swim and not drown, and after swimming a bit I made it to a grand hall with a huge stained glass window. I was able to swim out the door and I was on dry land again.

My best guess is that it's some sort of anxiety dream (when I was a kid I had the teeth crumbling and falling out sorts of anxiety dreams), but I don't feel particularly anxious in my waking life. I do not live with my parents, I have a house with my boyfriend.

    Thanks :)

I wasn't sure what you meant by the common themes. I thought you might mean that you know all the common dream theme meanings, like large bodies of water often representing your emotions and such?

Ah, I used the wrong word, I suppose I should have said "common elements/aspects"...it seems to me that the water symbolizes some sort of emotion, but I don't know why I would be afraid of it or dreading it.

I had another one the other night, I was in a house with a baby and babysitter (not my child, in the dream or real life - I'm not a parent) and a storm blew up outside. I was scrambling to close the blinds so I didn't have to see it.

I guess what's happening is there is some sort of emotion or feeling that I really need to face but the prospect of doing so is scary and I subconciously run away from it every time it comes up. So I would say that IS a common theme throughout most, if not all of them. I wish I could figure out what it is though, because I am truly not aware of anything like that going on in my life.

Can I ask why you mentioned this bit:

I'm not saying you're wrong or anything like that, I just wondered why you thought to say it, like maybe your dreams make you think about that stuff but you don't see it as a problem?
