I have had this dream since I was a child and it continues to haunt me.

I am in a cave with another girl my age (about 8 or 9) and a man approaches me and breaks my neck. I can't move or breath but I hear the other girl screaming. I try to help her but I can't move because I'm dead.

I have this dream every few months or so and it's so vivid and scary.

I think the girl in the dream represents something in yourself. Can you describe her in more detail? Is it the same girl every time and are you both always 8 or 9 in your dream? Are you male or female, and how old are you now?

The man could be a part of you that realizes that things have to change and you have to move on.

There could also be a physical cause to this dream. During REM sleep, which is when you usually dream, your body becomes paralyzed and part of your upper airways are blocked. If you became partially aware of what was happening to your body, your brain could have interpreted this as you having your neck broken and not being able to move and incorporated that in the dream.
