I was on the brink of sleep. I could feel myself just kind of drifting away. Then I saw some doors, and a man. He stopped, stared at me. And then walked quickly on his way. He was more like a shadow then a man. It only lasted a couple seconds. But I woke with a jolt, and was just SO scared. More scared than I've ever woken up from a dream. Help, please?
This is a common type of hypnagogic hallucination, a hallucination that you have as you are falling asleep, halfway between being asleep and being awake. (A hypnompic hallucination is a situation that you have when you are waking up.) It's common to hallucinate a scary figure during a hypnopompic hallucination, and to have a feeling of intense fear. People experience similar hallucinations during sleep paralysis.
