I am curious about the interpretation of this dream. Some of the symbols are obvious to me but some are fuzzy. Maybe someone can help with these. Here are my notes from my dream journal. I made these late in the night after waking from the dream. The dream starts with me and my wife talking to a person that I can some describe as the joker. The joker is a person that plays tricks on people. I can't see his face but I know his way. He is giving us a challenge. The challenge is to get out of hell. He will give us mounts and put us just inside the gates of hell. We have to ride out of hell and exit the gates or end up in hell. He gives my wife a horse to ride and he gives me a pig. We have to put bars into the mounts to ride them. The bars must be inserted into our mounts to control them and they look like the bars used on a merry go round that you hold onto while on the ride. My wife inserts her bar without a problem but my pig mount doesn't work that well and I can't get the bar into the mount. But it is too late and we are transported into hell just inside the gates. We are on a long stairway. As I look down the stairs, I can see the bowels of hell, burning. My wife comments that she can smell the burnt hair and flesh of the people in hell. She appears yallow and while I watch, she turns her mount and starts up the stairs. As she goes up, I notice that she is bouncing on her mount and it reminds me of Mary Poppins from the movie. Suddenly, I realize that my pig is riding down the stairs into hell proper. I am terrified. I look back at the gates and notice there are pictures or etchings on the gates. The images are of tempations that draw people to hell. I can see etchings of addiction, murder, suicide and other temptations on the doors. The etchings are alive and the people in them appear to be enjoying themselves. As I look up the stairs, I can see the alacrity of the party players. But the pig continues into the pit of hell. Now, not only can I smell the burnt flesh, I can also see the horrors. My pig mount walks with an indolent lurch that wakes me up. But I am not really awake instead I realize that I am dreaming. I change the pig into Silver, the horse from The Long Ranger, and I ride up the stairs and out of hell. -Magiknight
The Joker is another name for The Trickster, one of Jung's dream archetypes . The pig makes me think of the pig-baby in Alice and Wonderland.
