I wonder if you could give me an interpretation for a dream I had last night. Ive had a look in books and it appears quite worrying, so here goes...

I was in a boat, a kind of small fishing boat type i think, on the sea off the coast of where I live. A friend of mine who i play in a band with was in another boat besides me. the sea was quite calm, but when we looked arround there was a hurricane or tornado heading for us. I tried to get away but it passed over me and sucked me up. For what seemed like ages i was floating in the sky (in my boat!) and it was really calm. I thought it was going to drop me on to the clifftop but then i started falling back to the water. I woke up then and im not sure if i jumped off the boat before it hit the water and broke up.

Any ideas, or does it mean doom and gloom for the rest of my life? :(

Hello stevengadams, First off there’s no such thing as a dream that means doom and gloom for the rest of your life, or any kind of thing for the rest of your life (unless you happen to know you only have a short time to live); they don’t predict the long-term future. Dreams are all about what’s happening now and what might happen in the near future, based on current information, your past and guesswork as to what might happen next based on your experiences.

Anyway, dreams are all about symbolism; large bodies of water like oceans usually represent your greater unconscious, your emotions and experiences. Any kind of transportation in dreams is usually significant of your journey through life, like in Rick’s dream here. So you put the two together and see that your dream represents you exploring, voyaging through your deeper thoughts while you sleep. Storms like tornadoes represent some kind of upheaval, in your case quite dramatic, but it doesn’t necessarily mean anything bad – it’s more likely that you are expecting some changes in your waking life soon, or that you’re are experiences some big changes right now and your dreams are reflecting this change.

Another thing with storms, tornadoes and violent seas et cetera is that they always come to an end, they always level out and return to calm. So whatever the change is that you are going through, or are expecting to go through, things will either return to normal afterwards, or the new changed life will become your new normality. I hope all that makes some sense? :)
