Hi everyone, I want a little insight as to the two types of flying dreams I have had. One type is recurring, the other kind I had just last night for the 1st time. So ok, here goes: The first type are like i am superman, flying all around everywhere, amazed (in the dream) at the fact at what I am doing. Above the trees, zipping all over just having a ball, At some point I start to think to myself, "Wow...this is so cool! But boy am I waaay up here (in the air). What if my powers stopped working?!!!" Right at this point, they do quit working, and I fall, helplessly and terrified of going SPLAT all over the ground once I hit it. To my surprise, every time, I hit the ground and bounce a few times like a rubber ball, coming to rest completely unscathed. Afterwards I'm usually sitting there shocked, like, "That didn't hurt at all...not even so much as a scratch!!!" The thing about it is when I'm falling, before I hit, I'm completely freaking and panic-ing screaming and yelling in all ways possible, just knowing I'm going to die. Yet I never do. The other type, I dreampt(?) for the 1st time ever last night. It lasted about what seemed to be 45-60 seconds of dreaming. I was on a plane this time. I was not the pilot. It was a CONVERTIBLE plane too, at that. Above my head I could see clouds as I sat there strapped into my seat. In the dream I was once again amazed, and I remembered looking around and saying, "A convertible plane??!!! How cool is this??!!!" Then came some turbulence, and i grabbed my seat and was like "Oh nooo you don't!" and immediately after saying that, the shakes and rumbles stopped, and plane smoothly flew off into the horizon, myself still aboard, but somehow at the same time I was seeing it fly away from the perspective of someone standing on the runway!!! Then I woke up thinking how weird the idea of a convertible plane was. Anyone have any idea what these dreams could be trying to show/reveal to me? *if it helps, I have actually been on a plane once, to Cancun, Mexico. Our flight encountered a few minutes of turbulence, in which I thought we were gonna die(1st time flyer jitters). We obviously did not crash, but this real-life plane ride was about 14-15 yrs ago.
Here is some information on flying dreams that might be helpful. The first dream reminds me of one of those old cartoons where the cartoon character is floating peacefully in the air and then suddenly he looks down and realizes how high up he is and then panics and starts running in mid air and then crashes to the ground. The events in the first dream seem very typical of a lucid dream. (I don't know if you were actually lucid - aware that you were dreaming - in the dream.) You know that you can do anything you want in your dream, even things that would be impossible in waking life (common in lucid dreams), but then another level of awareness sinks in and you realize that you can't fly so you fall. The dream could have to do with a fear of failure. A fear that as soon as you are successful at something, something will happen to ruin everything. I think the part where you bounce back up could be your unconscious' way of telling you that if you have a little setback it doesn't mean that you've failed, you have to keep at it. Another interpretation could be that it has to do with something that happened in your past - you thought something had gone terribly wrong but in the end everything worked out, and your unconscious is trying to remind you of this for some reason. I think the dream about the plane is similar. There is turbulence but you don't accept it (give in to your worries) and then everything goes smoothly. Your unconscious could have picked the plane as a symbol because of your past frightening situation. I'm thinking that the "convertible" plane relates to the need for you to be adaptable in different situations.
