Question: How does one go about getting into the Christmas spirit like they did when they were young when all you really want to do is have someone put you out on the 23rd and wake you on the 26th? Six years in retail has killed my joy for Christmas. I used to be the ultimate decorator, no corner was safe in my home. This year, I've barely bothered to turn on the tree. Has anyone else gone through this? If so, have you gotten the spirit back eventually? Cheers! Cate
I bought a little fibre optic glowing tree this year, it's the first tree I've had at Christams for 16 years - I just felt like it this year because I'm fealing happy and in the mood for it. I think the Christmas spirit is mainly a thing for children though; or for parents with children, seeing how happy they are opening presents and stuff.
I think if you aren't in the mood to celebrate on Dec. 25, you shouldn't have to. I hate forced cheeriness. If you are happy that's great, but you shouldn't have to pretend to be happy if you aren't. I mean, a relative of yours could have just died, then you walk into a shop and everyone is smiling and saying "Merry Christmas" and telling you to smile. I don't think you should ever try to deny your feelings just because it's a certain day.
That's true, Christmas is the worst time ever if you're not happy; it's the one time of year where everyone seems to expect you to be happy, so if your'e not it makes you feel worse. This is the first Christmas in ages that I'm not dreading, because I'm happy.
I never thought about it in the sense of not celebrating it, only because everyone else around me will be. Oh, well. I'll go with the flow and hope that 2005 is much better! Thanks!
im just looking foreward to some time off work. i just ignore all the tat and rubbish of christmas , its what you make of the time that counts. happy christmas everyone! :drum:
