Ever since I was little, I have had a few recurring dreams and never quite understood what they mean, I have had the same 4 dreams for the best part of 20 years now, so any help to understand them will be appreciated, here goes:-

    1. I used to dream that Freddy Krueger was grandfathers best friend, I used to like Nightmatre on Elm Street as a kid, and loved anything to do with Freddy, but could never understand why he was friends with my granddad in my dream world

    2. When I was 15, I nearly died of a drug overdose, I was in Intensive Care for a while, and I had a dream about trying to go to heaven with my ancestors stopping me, telling me it was not my time, I should turn round and go back for my mother as I had been causing her a lot of grief by doing what I was doing, that sounds like an Out of Body experience, but I have never really believed in OBE's

    3. When I was 17, I was beaten up and sexually assaulted, I never went to the Police about it because I was a runaway at the time and never thought anybody would me take seriously, I cannot remember anything of the attack, but started dreaming of a faceless person chasing all over the place, in the dream, when the person chasing me gets close by, I can never see the persons face and when it looks like they are about to grab me, I take off and fly away(like Neo in the Matrix), is the whole faceless bit my sub-conscious trying to tell to me that because I don't remember what happened or remember seeing someones face, thus telling me to stop beating myself up and to stop looking for an answer I cannot find?

    4. I have been rejected by my biological father since I was 14 and I constantly dream about him, I am walking towards him with my arms wide open wanting a hug off him, I mean who wouldn't want a hug from there Old Man, but whenever I get to within 5 or 10 feet of him, he keeps moving back making sure I can never reach him, again is this my sub-conscious trying to tell me to stop trying, that I am fighting a losing battle trying get to him?

Any help to understand this would be appreciated

    Hi Mista Fozz,

I am just going to bold what you said and then add my responses underneath them, because it is easier for me than making quotes.

A disclaimer - you seem to have a lot of serious issues related to your past. I am not a psychiatrist or a counselor. They would be able to provide help for you that can't be provided by this message board.

Also, if there is anything you don't want to discuss publicly here, please feel free to PM me.

    1. I used to dream that Freddy Krueger was grandfathers best friend, I used to like Nightmatre on Elm Street as a kid, and loved anything to do with Freddy, but could never understand why he was friends with my granddad in my dream world

Are there any qualities that you associate with Freddy Krueger that you also associate with your granddad? Any childhood issues involving your garandad?

Well, you don't have to have left your physical body. The ancestors in your dream were probably a hidden part of your unconscious that was helping you to learn from your experience and helping you to survive.

If you don't mind my asking, what led you to taking a drug overdose and running away? That could have a lot to do with your dreams.

People who experience a traumatic incident often relive the incident in their dreams. So it's possible that the faceless person in the dream is the persn who actually assaulted you.

However, the faceless person could also represent something about yourself that you are trying to avoid. What do you think would happen if you didn't take off and fly away?

Have you seen a counselor who deals with victims of sexual assault? They would probably be better equipped to help you.

It seems like you already feel that way. This is something that only you can decide. Why do you think it is a losing battle? Have you tried to contact him many times and been rejected?

Maybe Freddy Krueger being your grandfather's best friend could have to do with you unconsciusly wondering why if your grandfather was so nice, what was he doing as a part of your family that wasn't so nice. Maybe you are thinking about how he could let all of the bad things that happened to you take place. His associating with Freddy Krueger is like him associating with the rest of your family.

I think that even though you consciously accept that your father will reject you, the fact that it comes up in dreams means that you unconsciously don't fully accept this yet. It seems like you are working on this.
