I'm sure this dream has some meaning but I'm also certain it requires some background as well.

As of recently I have broken up with my gf of 3yrs because she cheated on me. This is not the first time me and her had our differences but I am hoping it will be the last (end of relationship, not going back). I am also talking with a woman I was with last time we broke up. Haven't talked to her for say 6 months. Ok, so... I also feel I should and could be better off financially and I am working on getting my license back (DWI).

So before I get into the dream, I had bought this cheap laser at Big Lots a month ago. I had difficulty seeing it from a distance so I readjusted the lens to bring it into focus across long distances. (lets face it, there was nothing wrong with the laser, I just love taking things apart and tweaking them)

In this dream I simply picked up the laser and pushed the button. I shined it onto my desk from about a foot away and it was out of focus, so out of focus the beam was very dull and the spot on the desk was the size of a quarter.

Now of course when I awoke I had to pickup and check the laser to be certain their wasn't actually anything wrong with it, which there wasn't. Obviously lasers are typically a symbol for focus, clarity, and accuracy but it doesn't quite play that role here. Your thoughts?

Why do you think that clarity, accuracy and focus don't play a role in the dream?

A laser is supposed to have a tightly focused beam, but in the dream it isn't working and it isn't focusing - instead the beam is fuzzy out of focus. Could that have to do with you not focusing on what you should be focusing on, not thinking clearly or engaging in "fuzzy thinking"?

Could the dream have to do with you not paying attention to the signs that your gf was cheating - not focusing on the right clues?

I think its more generalistic than that. After writing it down on here it's made more sense. I need to focus on me and my life in general and in all aspects. Thx for the help, and I enjoyed sharing.
