This is my first post so bare with me Iv been having this dream once every couple week for about a year now. It starts with me waking up in my bed, I get up and walk out into the kitchen. As I walk through the doorway someone grabs my shoulder from behind and stabs me. I fall into the fetal position and look up to see someone dressed in black and wearing a skii mask. I jump up and start to throw some punches and kicks (blue belt in taekwondo) he blocks them, stabs me again then knocks me to the ground as if I'm nothing (and I'm a pretty big guy lol). I fall back into the fetal position then as I go to get up he kicks me onto my back and pulls a gun then shoots me, the last thing I hear is a gunshot then I wake up. The whole thing is pretty intense and when I wake up I'm breathing heavy, sweating, shaking and the first thing I do is check to see if I was shot.
It sounds like your attacker represents a part of yourself, something about yourself that you are afraid to face. The dream is saying that you can't avoid dealing with this aspect of yourself. Being shot sounds like it is a "wakeup call". The guy who shot you sounds like he could be your shadow.
That makes sense, there is a part of me that I completely hide from everyone and that no one knows about.
Ok so I literally just woke up from having that dream but it was diffrent this time. For about a year now I've been having it and it's always been exactly the same but this time just before I got shot what ever it was yelled "WHY ARE YOU AFTAID OF ME!?" at me. I'm not sure what this could mean.
All of us - except, perhaps, Francis of Asisi - have a part of ourselves we hide from others; and the problem is we also try to hide it from ourselves. Since we really can't, we're fearful. A friend of mine, a police officer, told me he repeatedly dreamed that while on duty he was shot at point=blank range by a man with a submachine gun. He was a very heavy drinker while off-duty, and his behavior while drunk eventually led to his arrest and dismissal. The good news is that he then got sober, and was eventually hired as a correctional officer. You need not answer this question here, but you need to answer it yourself: What is it in your hidden life that could really hurt you? Cost you a job? A valued relationship? Whatever financial security you have? What's interesting here that, in asking you why you are afraid of him, your adversary is telling you he can be beat and, in fact, wants you to win.
It sounds to me like your shadow, as Marcia describes it, is asking you just that, "Why are you afraid of me?" We all have something inside of us that we keep hidden from others. But there comes a point when you just need to confront it... even if it does sound cheesy that doesn't take away from the fact that it's true. Especially when we're talking about recurring dreams. If you're into videogames and the whole psychoanalysis theme then you've probably heard of Persona 4. It has a well-written story where a bunch of students try and catch a killer, interestingly enough, on a subconcious otherworldly level. Each of the characters confront their shadows -- a part of themselves they keep hidden from the rest of the world -- as a means of growing up. Ironically they do this by fighting each shadow since the person refuses to acknowledge what they keep bottled deep inside themselves until the very end. You are me and I am you etc. Your dream is kind of like that -- only you're not confronting your shadow the right way. You continue to fight it but it can only take the same repetitive action so many times before it gets fed up and spells it out for you. It is pretty much mirroring what Marcia said because you already know what the problem is.
Something important that has not been mentioned yet: there is much good in your Shadow. Confront it and, as time goes by, you'll find that you, with no small help from your parents, teachers, other authority figures, friends and society in general , have in fact repressed some very desirable and life-enhancing parts of yourself. In fact, the Shadow your dream assailant represents may have resorted to force only because gentler methods failed to get your attention. Take it from us who have been there: this guy has things to tell and show you that you need to hear and see!
