I'm just trying to figure out what this is called, so I can research it. Sometimes I dream about a place I have never been or about knowing someone that I have never met. But it all checks out to be true. After my dream the internet is useful to find the location or the person so that I can confirm truth. I just wish I knew why this happens to me, or more about it, or if there's a word for it. I don't believe in an afterlife, or ghosts, or anything at all, so this is quite perplexing to me and somewhat disturbing.
I can go into more detail if it helps.
    Thank you.

Dreams that seem to come true are actually very common. They are known as precognitive dreams.

Your dreams are probably caused by

    1. Your having unconsciously heard or read about the person or thing you dreamed about before or

    2. Your not remembering your dreams correctly - your mind rewriting the memory of your dream so that it matches what is happening in waking life.

It would be helpful if you would post about an individual dream(s) and what came true afterwards.

It would also help you to keep a dream diary. Keep a pen and pad by your bed and write down your dreams as soon as you wake up. This way, if a dream seems to come true, you can go back to your dream diary and check if you were remembering the dream correctly.

Forgive me if I tread on the toes of a Demi-God; but I'd further suggest you block print at least a few of the key words of your dream. How often have I wakened up in the morning and found nothing but overwriting and illegibility? Often, just one or two legible words will bring back recall.

Well I do keep a dream diary, two actually. One goes next to my bed and the other is more like a long journal.
One specific dream was that I was at a friends house who was not home. I knew him, his child, about his widowed wife, and I'd obviously spent a great deal of time in this location because I knew where everythign was in the house. I even knew that he preferred to drink tea out of his yellow coffee mug and where that was in the kitchen. I knew his name and when I woke I found him on facebook looking just like id imagined, and living all the way in south carolina (where I have never been). I didn't contact him at first because it's totally weird, but eventually I did, I just coulnd't help it. We had conversations for about a week where I would ask "Is... true?" and he would reply that I was correct. And then to make sure he wasn't just being agreeable, I'd ask him to tell me about things I knew. I'd ask "what color is your fav coffee mug?" and "what's broken on your patio?" and "what color are the bottles in the window of your daughter's tree house?". Eventually he decided I was ungodly, and being a religious man he decided to not speak to me any more. I understand, I'd be scared too. Actually, I was just as scared as he was.
I still have dream like this, about people, places, etc... and it's frighteneing. I refuse to try to contact them anymore though, it was maybe a bad experience.
So who knows what that is???

That is really strange. I'm surprised that he accepted your FB friend request, from a complete stranger. Did you tell him that you learned about him from a dream? From his point of view, that must have been very creepy.

Are you sure you might not have seen him on FB before? Is it a common name? How many other people on FB have that name? What could you see on his profile before you became his FB friend?

Did you write down what he looked like and the answers to the questions that you asked him in your dream diary right after you had the dream? For example, does your dream diary say that he was drinking from (color) coffee mug and said this was his favorite mug. Was it an unusual color, other than the typical white with something printed on it?
