Last night I dreamt I was sitting up high with a girl I've just met and below us was a moving caravan of coffins. There were many many coffins, never stacked but always side by side. There was maybe 20 in total and all black.

Either way the girl was really scared and so I took her head and hid her face from the coffins. But i kept starring at them moving by us and comforting her saying "you are going to be perfectly okay".

The feeling I got from the coffins was extreme emptiness. Like a hollow, I was a little frightened at first, but I am a lucid dreamer and took control of the situation.

    (Q) What could this possibly mean?

The coffins combined with the feeling of emptiness makes me think this dream is about loss/regret over something.

Is there anything about the girl in the dream that reminds you of anything about your past or about yourself? When you said you "just met" her, did you mean in waking life or in the dream?

I just met her in the dream. Some of her characteristics did remind me of someone I used to know. I don't speak with this person any longer, but we separated on pleasant terms so they feeling of loss makes sense, but maybe it is not towards a person?

I read that coffins may represent an idea or thought that you are wanting to let go of. But I can't connect the dots.

It could have to do with needing to let go of something. Maybe this thing is so entrenched in your consciousness that you aren't even aware that it is something you can let go of.

Maybe your using your lucid dreaming powers to "take control of the situation" - I don't know how you did that, exactly - actually made things worse in a way. Maybe if you had just let things happen, no matter how frightening or upsetting they turned out, your dream would have told you more.

Ya it's pretty interesting and ironic to be a lucid dreamer. I've developed it long ago but now it seems like it can be a bit of a barrier. The thing is I usually take control when I experience a fight/flight response. After that, I control the whole dream.

    Thanks for the interpretation!

Coffins can refer to something "buried." Like Marcia said, it could be something hidden in the subconscious.

So I had another dream with the same feelings and same symbolism, I am convinced it is something buried in my subconscious.

I'm not sure if this is outside the scope of this forum, but how does one go about figuring out what the symbols mean and what they are trying to tell you?

To me this signifies CHANGE. Your life is going through something Positive, for a change. The fact that you are the PROTECTOR, tells me you will be the Strong one in the future or now at present. The coffins to me represent things that are old in your past as in old ways of dealing, feeling, and coping for you.
I believe that you just turned a Positive corner in your life

Now that you are aware that something is buried in your subconscious, your dreams might start to provide some additional symbols which will let you know more details about exactly what is buried.

You could also try free association.

Just giving yourself time to think about things in general when you are awake can also help. Just give yourself some quiet time without any distractions. Possibly try meditation.

Lin Loucks makes a good point that in the dream you are the strong, protective one.
