Finding yourself naked, in see-through clothing or in your underwear when you are in a public place is one of the most common dreams that people have.
If you have such a dream, you may want to return to the innocence of childhood, when you could be honest about your feelings and your desires, and you didn’t have to worry about following the rules of society and conforming to other people’s wishes. You may want to be able to express your true self and for others to accept you for who you are.
A dream of being naked can also be a sign that you are feeling vulnerable. You may be nervous about how you appear to others, and you might be afraid that they will reject if you let them see your true self. Such a dream can be a message that you need to develop more self-confidence.
How do the other people in your dream react to your nakedness?
If the other people in your dream don’t seem to be aware that you aren’t properly dressed, your unconscious mind may be telling you that you don’t need to worry about letting other people know the truth about you. It may also mean that, in waking life, you don’t care what others think of you, and that you want them to see the different sides of your personality.
If your nudity upsets the other people in your dream, you may be worried about exposing some aspect of your personality to others in waking life, or you may be concerned about others finding out about something that you have done. You may also be anxious about discovering a truth about yourself.
Freud and Jung on Nudity in Dreams
Freud thought nudity in dreams could represent latent exhibitionism. He thought a naked female represented sexual desire for women, and a naked male represented sexual desire for men.
Jung thought nakedness represented a desire to renounce the material world and become more spiritually aware. He saw nudity as an expression of creativity, beauty and divinity. Ancient goddesses were often portrayed nude.
